Village of Schaghticoke

June 2020 Newsletter

  • We hope that this newsletter finds each of you and your family members well.  We are certainly working through an unprecedented time in our village, town, county, state and country.  Please be aware and continue to follow New York State Department of Health and Rensselaer County recommendations for restarting our community.
  • Today is June 3, and we are looking forward to the conclusion of two projects in our Village.  The first is the paving by of Route 40, the second is the water project, which should be finished around July 15.  We have also contracted to pave parts of five Village streets; we expect this work to begin in July.
  • The Village Board has postponed spring clean-up; and will attempt to hold a fall clean-up.  This is always a popular service for our residents, and we look forward to providing it as soon as restrictions are lifted.
  • Please note that we will be sending a notice to each Village resident/homeowner regarding the cost of the water project with your July water bills.  As you may be aware, the project was funded in part by a grant with the balance being equally distributed across those who use the water in the Village.  The amount to be paid by each property owner will be communicated in this update; please note that the money spent on the project outside the grant, is being provided with a repayment term of 30 years with no interest.
  • The Village Board is looking to hire a part-time laborer to help with maintenance throughout the Village during the summer.  Any interested applicant must complete an application available in the office of the Village Clerk; applications are due before June 15.   We expect to appoint the part-time help at a special meeting on June 23.
